Admission Criteria

General Admission Criteria

The board of directors determines the admission requirements to Shaati Education in line with the policies and regulations promulgated by the Department of Basic Education and the examination board. This includes:

  1. determining the entrance requirements in respect of all qualifications;
  2. determining the numbers of students to be admitted for a particular qualification and the manner of their selection;
  3. determining the minimum requirements for re-admission to study;
  4. determining the standards and conditions under which students may be refused re-admission to Shaati Education.
  5. A student’s admission shall be subject to the student and/or parent’s acceptance of the rules and academic regulations of Shaati Education. Acceptance of a place at Shaati Education shall be taken to constitute acceptance of all published regulations that may pertain to qualifications and all lawful instructions of Shaati Education and its agents.
  6. All applications for admission to a formal qualification must be made directly to Shaati Education on the prescribed form and lodged in the manner prescribed by Shaati Education.
  7. Enrolment fee and first month’s tuition fee is to be paid in full and proof of payment supplied before such time as acceptance letter/email of enrolment are sent and login details provided to the student and/or parent.

Admission requirements for students enrolling to study at Shaati Education

New Students

  1. All new students must meet the statutory minimum requirements as prescribed by the Department of Basic Education. 
  2. Management, with the approval of the board of directors, has the prerogative to set additional and/or alternative entry requirements to the statutory minimum admission requirements.
  3. Students may not attend lectures, workshops, seminars, tutoring sessions or any contact sessions, receive study material or supervision, or have access to electronic study material or sources or be assessed for any subject if they are not enrolled and registered at Shaati Education for the relevant phase and subject for the relevant academic year.
  4. No assessment result obtained by a student is official if the student was not registered for the relevant phase and subject for the relevant academic year when the result concerned was obtained.
  5. Documents to be submitted upon enrolment:
    1. First-time students and transfer students from other institutions/schools
      1. Identity/passport document
      2. Certified copy of a report of the last grade passed
      3. Transfer card
      4. Up to date concession documents
      5. Signed tuition contract
      6. Signed payment agreement
    2. International students
      1. Certified copy of identity document
      2. Certified copy of passport
      3. Certified copy of study permit
      4. Certified copy of a report of the last grade passed
      5. Transfer card
      6. Up to date concessions
      7. Signed tuition contract
      8. Signed payment agreement
      9. In respect of foreign students applying for admission to an FET qualification, a certificate of the equivalent of Grade 9 issued by a recognised educational institution is the prerequisite for admission to FET studies with Shaati Education.
  6. Only upon acquiring these documents will Shaati Education send a registered letter and/or email confirming enrolment. 
  7. The omission of material information and the submission of incorrect documentation:
    1. Shaati Education has the right to revoke or amend the admission status of a student, and cancel and refuse the enrolment of a student who provided incorrect information and documentation material to an application for admission or who omitted to provide information or documentation. 
  8. Unavailability of documents:
    1. In exceptional cases (excluding international students), where the documentation is not available upon enrolment, conditional registration will be allowed only with the permission of the academic head of the institution. In these instances, a final submission date will be set. Failure to submit the documentation may lead to cancellation of enrolment and tuition.

ADMISSION TO STUDENTS IN TERMS OF A MATURE AGE

Admission to a FET qualification may be granted to prospective students who have reached the age of 21 years and older.  All other rules relevant to admission to Shaati Education will apply.

QUALIFICATION

A student can enrol for a maximum of one qualification per year. In calculating the passing requirements, the requirements as set out by the Department of Basic Education shall apply.

ADMISSION OF STUDENTS FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS WHO HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED OR SUSPENDED ON GROUNDS OF POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Persons who are currently excluded or suspended from another educational facility/school on grounds of poor academic performance and/or behavioural problems/issues may (at the discretion of the board of directors) not be prevented from being admitted to a qualification if the exclusion is:

  1. More than 3 years old; or
  2. More than 1 year old and was in the current year of study different from that for which application is made.

ADMISSION OF STUDENTS FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS WHO HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED OR SUSPENDED ON FINANCIAL GROUNDS

Persons who are currently excluded or suspended by another institution of learning on financial grounds will not be admitted to any qualification at Shaati Education.

ADMISSION OF STUDENTS FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE A CERTIFICATE OF SATISFACTORY CONDUCT

A student from another institution who applies to enrol at Shaati Education may be admitted as a student upon submitting a certificate of satisfactory conduct (passing) from that other institution.

Should a student be unable to submit a certificate of satisfactory conduct from that other institution the student may be admitted to register at Shaati Education if the board of directors (or a delegated authority) is satisfied that the student has, by way of an affidavit, provided an adequate explanation for the absence of such a certificate.

CONCURRENT ADMISSION

No student will be permitted to a formal qualification if he/she is registered for any formal qualification at another FET education institution, except that such students may enrol at Shaati Education for non-FET qualification purposes, provided that permission for such registration/enrolment is granted by the other educational institution.

Students registering for non-qualification purposes will be subject to all the rules set out by Shaati Education.

DUAL ENROLMENT

A student may not be admitted simultaneously to more than one formal qualification at Shaati Education save where one of the qualifications is registered for non-qualification purposes, and then only with the express approval of the Executive of Shaati Education offering the qualification for which admission is sought.

FEES

The registration fee, enrolment fee, and first instalment of the tuition fee as determined by Shaati Education are payable upon registration.

After registration, students/parents/guardians are obliged to pay outstanding fees due on or before the dates stipulated by Shaati Education, monthly in advance.

Students/parents/guardians who cancel registration are not entitled to reimbursement of the registration fee, enrolment fee or first instalment of the tuition fees and remain liable for tuition fees in accordance with the parent/student contract and Shaati Education.
